Informed decision-making, that is, making decisions based on knowledge — whether this be ecological, economic, sociocultural, political... in fact, all of these — is essential to achieve lasting, substantive, and equitable development!
Fundamentally, people's rights are at stake — and arguably, too, the rights of nature... (though this discussion should wait for another time) Human rights are not just political, they also pertain to health, education, happiness... and include the basic rights of access to the resources necessary for people to achieve development hopes and aspirations, such as access to land, water, and clean air.
In sum, it is human rights writ large that constitutes the basic premise of inclusive development.
